Painting a Portrait

I just finished a portrait using these steps:
1.  Drew the picture in pencil. Established the darks in the drawing.
2.  Toned the canvas with a green carefully over the picture
3.  Put in the light skin colors.
4.  Put in the dark skin colors for the shadows.
5.  Refined the painting and worked on the details.

How I Begin a Portrait Painting

I will be teaching a portrait workshop Aug. 10 so I have been painting lots of portraits.  Here is one portrait I am working on and I took a few photos as I went along.  I will share the final painting when it is finished.

I used tracing paper to add the drawing to the canvas.
You also can cover the back of the picture with pencil scribbling
to use as tracing paper.  It works great.

I carefully put a green wash
on the drawing and began
putting in my darks.

I began establishing my darks using my pencil..

 

I am just beginning to add my artwork for sale online.
This is a fun adventure and I have alot to share with all of you.
