Here is one I've been working on.  I had some trouble with the foreground because it didn't follow the landscape rules.  It should be the second lightest besides the sky but in the photo I took it wasn't.  So I just painted what I saw instead. When I painted what I saw from the photo, it was like a dark wall blocking the hills behind.  It just didn't want to work.  So I went back in and lightened the foreground and allowed some light through the trees.  I like it a lot better.  Lesson learned:  Don't rely just on a photo, but go with my gut instinct too.

Landscape Rules from Darkest Values to Lightest Values:
  • darkest values-verticals
  • next -slanted planes
  • next-ground
  • lightest-sky
